Mänik Pali
Mänik Pāli who was like unto the red ruby fixed on the wedding ring of the king, lived with radiance capturing the heart of the king.
The entire nation was in sorrow for sometime as King Maha Sammatha and Queen Mänik Pāli were still childless.
The place where the people made offerings to the Sun God praying for a noble son to King Manu and his queen came to be known as Puttalama (Presently Puttalam)
King Manu and his queen too visited the Devala of the Sun God and made offerings regularly praying for a child.
Brahamins were engaged to conduct ‘yagas’ and signs of pregnancy began to appear after the lapse of twelve years.
When the moon reappeared after the fading away of the Wesak moon, King Manu’s consort gave birth to a royal son resembling the moon.
The son who filled the gap in the royal line of King Manu dispelling the scarcity that hitherto existed was named meaningfully as ‘Dilib’
