Queen Ruwanmalee.
Since medicine and nursing should go hand in hand, the queen gave directions for the improvement of the nursing service.
Queen Ruwanmalee too like her aunt Sarasavi became a noble nurse and won the hearts of the people of the land of the Helese.
Even when she saw an aged beggar who had come to the clinic for treatment, she used to administer medicine with her own hands and bring comfort to him.
Whatever the work she had in the country, she performed her domestic duties well and also had the time to spare for her husband.
She was the head of the female wing of the Navy and paved the way for women to head the Sinhala Navy.
Since she was a woman of the battle field she earned the name of ‘Ramba’ and became the Queen of Lanka as Maha Ramba.
She observed sil on the four poya days of the month and offered alms every day bringing comfort to the people.
This queen was a mother to the world and was known by honorifics such as Ruwanmalee, Amma Malee, Valli Amma.
