New Year festival

The day of King Manu’s coronation at an auspicious moment became a day of rejoicing for the entire “Hela” nation which was transformed into a massive carnival ground.

This Hela King was crowned in the month of Bak (April) when the sun is directly overhead on the land of Manu.

This auspicious moment when the Sun starts a new round on its orbit from “Asvida Nekatha” (Aswinee) was taken as the auspicious moment when the New year dawns.

This special day on which the coronation of King Manu took place is to this day considered by the Helese to be the day of the New Year festival.

The Helese who were called the Sun Race were the Sons of the sun and hence the king too came to be known as Rōson (son of the sun)

The sign of the Zodiac (Rasi) from which the Sun starts a new course on its orbit came to be named as the “Helu (Elu) rasi” after the Hela race.

‘Helu’ became ‘Elu’ later and those who did not know its meaning gave a different meaning and called it “Ares” (Ram) what a joke!

Manu’s city of residence was known as Mannarama and he began to rule the country from this “Manu Nuvara” (City of Manu)

It is said that Manu became king in pre-Kaliyuga year 23,106 (28,200 B.C.)

This ends the first canto of ‘Irahanda Nagi Rata’ called the coronation of Manu consisting of 25 verses.
