13. The Story of King Mahasen
Story of the submergence of the land by ocean waters
On that night of Great Siva (Maha Siva Ratri), the Night of Great sorrow too emerged and the sea too rose showing signs of ‘Diyaapara’ (era of separation of lands by ocean waters).
When the land of the Helese broke into pieces befitting the name ‘Pan Saviya” (group of islands), Madagaskar drifted far.
Since Kakus (presently Cocos) mountain rose high, nature made it possible to make this mountain top an island.
Then a navigator by the name of Nova, went to the West with a crew from the shores of the island of the Helese.
People of the Manu dynasty went with their men to Greece via Egypt and Phoenicia and also towards Asia.
Destruction caused to Lanka was immense when the Earth tremored and the sea rose.
The land of the Helese could be seen from the Sky as a star with a tail of numerous stars spreading like a comet.
Service to the people
The king gave the name ‘submerged land’ to the islands that had got strewn at a slant to the South of the island of the Helese.
The King put into operation a shipping service from Kataragama reconnecting this submerged land with the land of the Helese.
This King was compassionate towards people and sent various types of medicines to the far off islands in addition to rice and spices.
The four parts of India which were under his uncle King Taru was once again brought under his sway by this King.
This King became overlord of 6 countries (4 parts of India, island of the Helese and the submerged lands) and this King earned the honorific ‘Savat’ symbolizing 6 crowns.
It also meant that he was the overlord of 6 mountains of Kataragama.
He caused four alms halls to be built at equal distances from each other at the four corners of the city of Kataragama and offered alms on all four Poya days of the month.
As a part of the anniversary celebrations of his coronation he presented jewels and pearls to the weight of ones body surpassing the Kalpa Ruksha.
Medical halls were erected at distances laying emphasis on service.
