10. Ruwanmalee’s Sayanwara (Selection of her own groom)
The daughter of King Viru Piyum of Tunmale was shining like the cresent of the moon in the sky of love.
Mahasen, the clever son of King Siva who was at that time residing at vadahitikanda’ in Kataragama happened to see this pretty princess.
Mahasen had gone to the port of Tunmale to make a vow for the Bak Maha Festival of worshipping the Sun God.
There the Sun of Hiru Kon Isuru devale (presently Thirikoneswaran) shone brightly in the area around the port of Thunmali receiving much veneration.
On his way to the devale he saw this playful and beautiful Princess bathing in the Mahaweli with her retinue.
The Prince watched secretly the damsels engaged in water sport amidst their never ending laughter.
The Prince saw a semblance of blue clouds, blue lotuses, jasmine buds, pearls, red lotuses, banana trunks, king coconuts and golden creepers.
When the Prince saw the golden reflection of the princess in the blue waters, Cupid started dancing in his mind.
From the other bank the Prince too descended to have a bath. Cupid seemed to have come to the Princess unknown to Rati.
When the two of them met in the waters of the river it looked as if the heart which was made eloquent by the looks had been transformed into words.
