The contest between the chosen men (“Manūs”)

The whole country was agog after this proclamation made by the tom tom beater. All heroes who were keen to enter the fray ascertained the date, time and venue and hastened to the venue of the contest.

Those who assembled at the Southern esplanade displayed their skills at will and three showed equal prowess.

These three were representatives of the three parts of the country and the second day’s contest began between these three contenders who were considered to be the three chosen men (“manūs”)

The grounds of the Surya Devale which earned the name of Hiru Dev Isuru Devale (presently Thiruketheevaram) was the venue of the final contest and it looked as if the entire population of the three parts of the country had assembled there.

Kahalsen Vivahas, the heroic peasant youth won the contest enthralling all those who were present and won the crown of the land of the Helese.

He who received the approval of everyone, having shown his prowess in the military arts became king as “Maha Sammata” (General approbation)

Since he was the first King amongst humans to be chosen in this manner he was most aptly named as “Manu”
The first kingdom on earth was so established making it the home of King Manu whose fame was to remain for ever.
